# Why BillNotch exists.

Billing by the hour has a quiet, expensive flaw: the hours you forget to track never get billed. Manual timers depend on perfect memory, and memory fails exactly when the work is most absorbing. BillNotch started from that problem: make tracking automatic, so the number you invoice matches the work you actually did.

## From raw activity to an invoice

### Capture

The desktop app records the active window (what you work on, second by second) with no timer to start and nothing to remember.

### Categorize

Keyword rules sort that activity into client projects out of the box; optional AI handles the fuzzy cases. Billable is inherited from the project.

### Bill

Read your billable total, send a PDF invoice, or export CSV. The Revenue Leak Finder surfaces billable time you tracked but never invoiced.
